Working at Clorox | Diversity

Our Diversity Philosophy

At Clorox, we believe the most effective way to approach diversity is to focus our efforts in three areas: our employees, the suppliers we work with and the consumers of our products. We are committed to each area, and will continue to link our diversity efforts in this way.

We believe the experiences, skills and insights of people from all types of backgrounds enrich our corporate culture, improve our employees' effectiveness and satisfaction, and ultimately contribute to our performance. We strive to create an inclusive environment where people's differences are embraced, employees are recognized and rewarded based on merit, and everyone is treated with fairness, dignity and respect as we work together to build the value of the company for our shareholders, retail customers and the consumers of our products.

In addition to traits such as race, gender, sexual orientation, age and physical ability, we define diversity as all of the differences that make us unique individuals - things like education level, personal experiences, work styles, viewpoints, culture and religious affiliation.

What We're Doing
Going hand in hand with our diversity philosophy is a commitment to continuous improvement. To help ensure ongoing progress, we have a dedicated center of expertise responsible for developing and implementing diversity strategies and initiatives, as well as a cross-functional Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Team that provides oversight and sponsorship. Below are some of our current focus areas.

Recruitment

Employee Diversity

  • To help diverse employees connect with one another and collectively with the company, Clorox sponsors five employee resource groups: African American, Asian/Pacific, Hispanic, GLBT and Women. Each group is sponsored by a member of the Clorox Executive Committee and led by a vice president of the company.
  • In 2008, for the third consecutive year, Clorox earned the top rating of 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index, a nationally recognized measure of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) equality in the workplace.
  • In a 2007 UC Davis study, Clorox ranked No. 6 among California's 400 largest companies for its percentage of female leaders. As reported by the "U.C. Davis Study of California Women Business Leaders: A Census of Women Directors and Executive Officers," women comprised 33.3 percent of Clorox's board members and executives. Clorox was No. 8 in the 2006 ranking.
  • We monitor the promotion, turnover and development of minorities and women at all levels of the company, and have goals in place for increasing representation at the director level and above.

Benefits

  • Because individuals have different needs, we offer a variety of lifestyle and medical benefits to help our employees stay healthy, meet their long-term financial goals, protect their income, and balance the demands of work and personal life.
  • Where resources, performance and job requirements permit, we provide flexible work options such as job-sharing, telecommuting and flextime. Our job-share program is unique in that participants are eligible for full medical, dental and vision benefits, whereas many employers require a minimum work schedule of 30 hours per week to be eligible for full-time benefits.
  • Benefits are available to employees and their dependents, including children, spouses and same-sex partners.

Clorox is an equal-opportunity employer. We do not discriminate against any group or individual on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, citizenship status, religion, age, physical or mental disability, ancestry or veteran status.
