Our Environmental Footprint

Clorox is committed to reducing our environmental footprint. We have completed a comprehensive inventory of our greenhouse gas emissions at our global facilities for 2005 and 2006.

Clorox 2005 and 2006 Greenhouse Gas Emissions

More than 60 percent of our total North American greenhouse gas emissions are from biogenic sources associated with the use of wood scrap as an energy source in our Kingsford® charcoal operations. We chose to include this data even though biogenic greenhouse gas emissions (that is, from wood and other biofuels) are considered part of the natural carbon cycle, and they're usually excluded from carbon-footprint calculations.

While this greenhouse gas inventory is an important first step in evaluating our overall environmental footprint, we're also taking steps to assess and report our energy and water use as well as our solid-waste output. We expect that this information will add to our understanding of how to further reduce our overall environmental impact.

Did You Know?
Kingsford® charcoal manufacturing facilities purchase waste wood for charcoal production from area wood products businesses, thereby diverting it from the waste stream.
